The Minnesota wild will travel to St.Louis to face the Blues for the 3rd time this season. These two sides have split the 2 earlier match ups with both games ending in a home team win.
Minnesota Wild
Minnesota will come into Thursday off a disappointing overtime loss against Arizona. Minnesota lead going into the 3rd period but gave up a goal to Clayton Keller midway thru the 3rd than Keller was able to grab the winner in overtime.
The Wild have been playing some of the best hockey of any team this year getting points in 10 straight and winning 7 of those 10.
Offense
The Wild are not all that impressive, only scoring 2.81 goals per game which is only good enough for 26th in the league, currently they are the least scoring team sitting in a playoff spot. The Wild’s shot totals could be the explanation for the struggling offence averaging 31 shots per game. A big positive for the Wild is their special teams, the power play clicks at 12th best in the league at a solid 22 percent.

Defense
Minnesotas defence is where this team excels, they only give up 2.5 goals per game which is actually 3rd best in the league, a big reason for that is they keep the shot totals down giving up just over 30 per game which is 9th best. As mentioned above the Wild have very good special teams and that includes the penalty kill which is good for 82{dec8eed80f8408bfe0c8cb968907362b371b4140b1eb4f4e531a2b1c1a9556e5} which is 8th best. The Wild should be very grateful for that good penalty kill as they do take a ton of penalties.
Goaltending
Minnesota uses both goalies on an even basis, butMarc-Andre Fleury will get the nod in net vs St.Louis on Wednesday. Fleury has had a bit of a tough season he came into the year thinking he would be the number one guy, but he did slip up into sharing the net with Filip Gustavsson. Fleury has won his last 5 starts.
St. Louis Blues
St. Louis will be coming into Wednesday on a sour note after losing to Vegas 5-3 on Sunday. They will have an extra day to think about that game and figure out ways to improve. St. Louis has struggled of late going 3-5-2 in their last 10
Offense
Offensively the Blues struggle, they only average 3.06 goals per game which ranks them 20th in the NHL, they also rank 26th in the shots on goal department. The power play really isn’t much better at 21st in the league only converting 20{dec8eed80f8408bfe0c8cb968907362b371b4140b1eb4f4e531a2b1c1a9556e5}.
Defense
Defensively St. Louis could be worse than the offence, giving up 3.65 goals per game which is way at the bottom of the league 28th in fact. To no ones surprise they give up a ton of shots, the penalty kill is well below average killing off only 77{dec8eed80f8408bfe0c8cb968907362b371b4140b1eb4f4e531a2b1c1a9556e5} of penalties which ranks them 22nd in the NHL. One positive is they don’t take many penalties 2nd least penalized team in the NHL.
Goaltending
Jordan Binnington should get the call in net for the Blues tonight, he has struggled this year compared to his numbers of years past, going 22-24-5 with a high 3.33 goals against average, plus a well below average .894 save percentage. He does have 2 shutouts this season though.

Interesting game as you have the Wild playing really good hockey and the Blues that are struggling. The trends I have listed have mixed opinions on this one so I will take the obvious play and back the Wild on the road.
