In conversation with Goffredo Dell’Appennino, General Manager, Bulgari Hotel Milano (Exclusive Interview) – CPP-LUXURY

In 2006, Goffredo started his career as a waiter at the Bulgari Hotel Milan. 16 years later and several managerial positions in Asia, with Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, Ritz Carlton and Edition Hotels, Goffredo returned to Bulgari Hotel Milano in the role of General Manager. It was a very symbolic return to find a mature property, which has retained its relevance and desirability among the finest hotels in Milan. The property has continuously evolved constantly improving its services aiming for perfection but also maintaining a top quality product. Bulgari Hotel Milano remains the original flagship, inspiring all the other properties.

Goffredo told me he has been inspired by the solid number of returning hotel guests, including locals (non hotel guests) who are often patrons of the hotel. ‘’It is such a loved property which stands proof for identifying the ideal formula and concept to reflect the Bulgari lifestyle, laying the foundations for the expansion and development of Bulgari Hotels worldwide’’.

It is through consistency and coherence that Bulgari Hotels & Resorts have ensured a sustained expansion, whether it is the architecture and interior design (the interior of all hotel has been conceived by ACPV Architects Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, or the dining which has been overseen by Italian Michelin starred Chef Niko Romito. These strategic partnerships have also ensured the constant reflection of the Italian roots of the brand, also known as ‘’Italianità’’

”We have been continuously investing to maintain our product to the highest luxury standards, Antonio Citterio remaining very much in charge’’. With each new property, I am fascinated to see that the same type of materials have been used, from the very same suppliers, not to mention the superlative quality for furnishings and finishes. It is important to mention that most of the interiors have retained a sense of timelessness, with a unique blend of sleekness and timeless contemporary elements – all of this while ensuring ultimate comfort and functionality, equally relevant for both business and leisure guests.

A sense of local identity and sense of place has been subtly implemented in each property. Like Bulgari Hotel Milano, which is positioned in a most serene oasis in the very heart of the city, boasting its very own private park, each of the other Bulgari hotels enjoys a top positioning in the respective location, lending the very same prestige.

There is a very strong company culture which has been nurtured at Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, with a well bonded team, consistently motivated, enthusiastic and  energised to provide the highest service standards, creating memories that will  last forever.

Whether it is dining or the Spa, we are continuously introducing novelties to surprise our guests, pursuing a dynamic offering that remains attractive and relevant. Seasonality is extremely important for our F&B offering, as we strive to source the best quality ingredients sourced locally, with a similar approach at the Spa to keep up with the latest developments in the industry.

About Bvlgari Hotel Milan

Settled in a 4.000sqm private garden near the ancient Botanical Garden, the Bvlgari Hotel Milano benefits from an ideal location in the fancy district of Brera. Just a few steps away are the main cultural and historical treasures that Milan has to offer; from the Accademia di Brera and the Saint Carmine Church to the famous Teatro alla Scala.

The hotel features 61 rooms, including 13 suites, most with stunning garden views, ideal for a peaceful retreat. One of the very few green oases of peace and tranquility in the historic city centre. The General Manager Goffredo Dell’Appennino and his staff of approximately 150 people work passionately to provide their guests with a bespoke experience, making sure they feel home right upon arrival at The Bvlgari Hotel Milano.

The Bvlgari Hotel Milano is housed in a historic building dating back to the 18th century, a former convent of the Confraternity of the Sisters of the Last Supper. Part of the original façade has been preserved and is still visible today. In 1813, both the building and the garden became property of the Milanese family Lucini Passalacqua, who established their residence there.

The original plant of the garden is described in the “Ruralium Commodorum” of Piero de Crescenza, a document of 1305 that testifies the existence of a large veranda-garden and a greenhouse for rare plants. Until the early 1900s, the garden hosted concerts and receptions for painting amateurs. Today the garden is entrusted to the architect Sophie Agata Ambroise, a sensitive Swiss landscape designer who created an environment-friendly design, attentive to the local biodiversity.
