Legacy High School is ready to welcome students in for the 2024-25 school year on Thursday.
The campus has only minor work left to be completed with the bulk of the remaining workload coming from the auditorium. Auditoriums at both new high school faced delays due to supplier issues.
Dr. Donny Lee, Wichita Falls ISD superintendent, said Aug. 9 that it was a relief to see most of the last few issues finally resolved before the first day of school.
“The team gets anxious on that last 1%. We had 99% done. We never had any doubts that it would get complete, we were just very anxious for it to be complete,” Lee said during a tour of the new school.
“And then to see it all complete minus the auditorium, . . . it’s exciting, and it’s a relief to finally get these things done and welcome our kids,” he said.
Teachers have already moved into the new facility, and they have been in the process of making their teaching spaces their own. Aug. 8 was the required date for teachers to report.
But Lee said many teachers moved into their spaces early.
Most students have toured Legacy as well during orientation, allowing them to get a feel for their new school.
Lee said he’s excited now that the school is ready to open its doors for students and proud of the work that has gotten the campus to that point.
“It’s overwhelming from a sense of just how proud I am of our team, of our contractors and our architects all working together to see the finished product when two years ago, we were standing on a mound of dirt,” Lee said.
“And now we look up and see this amazing facility,” he said.
